Fatalities reported after anti-coup fighters attack junta
soldiers in Loikaw
Media reporting indicates that several People's Defence Forces (PDF)
groups launched an attack on the district administration office in Loikaw on
Wednesday 19 January. At least 15 junta soldiers were reportedly killed in
the attack. In Kayah State over the course of recent days, rebel fighters
have reportedly taken over several homes and churches, while junta forces
have called in air and artillery strikes amid escalating clashes. The
violence has also pushed thousands of residents to flee the region. Further
violence and casualties should be expected over the coming days.
