Over 80 people have been killed in the Metekel area of Benishangul-Gumuz Region following an attacked by unidentified assailants on 12 January. Victims range from ages 2 to 45 according to local media reports. Opposition politicians within Ethiopia have blamed the attack on a recent series of incidents conducted by Gumuz militias against other ethnic groups in the region. The attack follows a similar massacre in December that left over 100 civilians dead.
