157 nationwide arrests following general strike

Nepal's police have arrested 157 members of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), 80 of these from within the Kathmandu Valley area. Local officials describe these NCP members as being involved in vandalism and arson. A splinter group of the NCP has organised a nationwide strike with local sources reporting that shops are closed. Police report that traffic is beginning to resume.
