state of emergency declared due to rising gang homicides
The El Salvador Official Gazette has reported that a 30
day state of emergency has been declared nationwide. President Nayib Bukele
requested the state of emergency due to a spike in gang-related homicide; 62
were reported on 26 March and 30 on 25 March. Several civil rights under the
El Salvador Magna Carta have been suspended and authorities have the power to
intercept private correspondence during this time.
