Update: Millions urged to evacuate due to passage of Typhoon Haishen

According to local media reports, local authorities have urged as many as eight million people to evacuate their homes across southwestern Japan as Typhoon Haishen tracked north-westerly off the coast of Kyushu towards the Korean Peninsula through late hours local time on 6 September. Typhoon Haishen brought powerful winds and heavy rains to Kyushu, and southwestern prefectures on Japan's mainland through 6 September, injuring at least 12 people as of 19:00 local time, according to a local reporting. The storm also triggered widespread power and communications outages across the worst-affected regions and also prompted the suspension and cancellation of public transportation and hundreds of flights. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of high winds, heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides in the coming hours across Okinawa, Kyushu and Shikoku islands.
