Update: State television broadcast confirms military coup
Captain Sidsore Kader Ouedraogo has appeared on state television to
confirm a military-led coup in Burkina Faso. President Roch Kabore has been
removed from power and the military has declared an indefinite suspension of
the existing constitution. The National Assembly and the previous government
have been dissolved, and Burkina Faso's borders have been closed until
further notice. A curfew has been implemented nationwide between the hours of
21:00 and 05:00 local time. The Economic Community of West African States
(ECOWAS), the United States (US), and the European Union (EU) have condemned
the coup.
