Update: France to deploy military aircraft and special
forces
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the country will
deploy two military aircraft and a contingent of special forces to aid in
evacuations from Kabul Airport. Several NATO member states have similarly
deployed military forces to aid in evacuations of diplomatic staff and
contractors. Earlier in the day, five people were killed at the airport. It
is presently unclear if their deaths were the result of a stampede or
gunfire.
