Vice President assumes leadership role in interim government

Local media reports that Colonel Assimi Goita, the Vice President in Mali has confirmed he is in charge of the country following the arrest of President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane. Mr Goita indicated the two men were arrested for violating the charter of the transitional government. It has been reported that Assimi Goita was in charge of the coup that deposed of President Ibrahim Keita in August 2020.
