Update: Government forces claim to have captured Idaga Hamus, Tigray region

According to a statement issued by the Ethiopian National Defence Force, their troops had captured the town of Idaga Hamus, roughly 97 kilometres north of Mekelle, the rebel-held capital of Tigray region. Government forces were advancing towards the region's capital and had previously warned civilians of the possible use of artillery. Reports from the region are difficult to verify as phone and internet communication has been down since conflict erupted in early November.
