The United States Geological Survey (USGS) indicates that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake was detected 58km southeast of Ofunato. The tremor struck at a depth of 33.4km at 02:44 UTC. As of yet, no tsunami warning has been issued and no damage has been reported.
