Nationwide state
of emergency declared in anticipation of TPLF attacks
The Ethiopian Council of Ministers has issued a nationwide state of
emergency to be effective 2 November. The state of emergency is in
anticipation of attacks by the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF).
Local media reports that authorities in Addis Ababa have told citizens in the
capital to register any firearms and be prepared to defend their
neighbourhoods from the TPLF. A heightened police and military presence is
likely throughout Ethiopia.
