The
Azores - Mandatory evacuations due to increased risk of landslides
According to local media reports, due to an increased
risk of landslides, the Government of the Azores has ordered the evacuation
of some residents living in the municipality of Velas on San Jorge. In
addition, the government will also prohibit access to certain areas in the
coming days. Heavy rain is forecast through 27 March, which, combined with
the ongoing seismic activity, could cause landslides in some coastal areas of
San Jorge.
