Top Islamic council member arrested on terrorism charges
Counter-terrorism police have announced that Ahmad Zain An-Najah, a member
of the Islamic council in Indonesia, has been arrested in connection with a
terrorism case. The charges being brought against him are in relation to
raising funds for the al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah (JI) group. JI has been
responsible for a number of deadly bombings, including the 2002 Bali
nightclub bombings that killed more than 200 people. Zain has been
temporarily suspended from the management structure until further notice.
The arrest of Ahmad Zain An-Najah could lead to an outbreak of protests.
