Over 50,000 people
evacuated in Kurigram due to heavy flooding
Local media reports have confirmed that over 50,000 people have been
evacuated in Kurigram due to heavy flooding in the area caused by the
overflow of the Brahmaputra River. Widespread food and water shortages have
been reported in the surrounding areas, and the Bangladeshi Flood Forecasting
and Warning Centre (FFWC) has warned that 30 per cent of the country may be
impacted by floodwaters over the coming days. The districts of Kurigram,
Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Tangail, Manikganj,
Faridpur and Shariatpur are forecast to be among the worst affected over the
next 24 hours.
