Fatalities reported due to impact of Tropical Storm Ana
Local reporting indicates that Tropical Storm Ana has resulted in at least
ten fatalities across Mozambique as the depression gradually moves inland.
Six deaths were reported in the districts of Macanga and Tsangano on the
afternoon of 25 January local hours due to an increase in the flow of several
rivers. On 24 January, two people were killed after being swept away by the
Licungo river in the Mocuba area of Zambezi Province, while two other
fatalities were confirmed in Manica province after a dwelling wall collapsed.
Damage to properties and collapsed trees have also been reported in several
areas across the country. Continued disruptions should be expected as relief
operations are ongoing and residents remain displaced.
