President Gitanas Nauseda declares state of emergency subject to parliamentary vote

President Gitanas Nauseda of Lithuania has declared a state of emergency nationwide, subject to a parliamentary vote authorising the declaration. Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte has indicated that the state of emergency will not include significant restrictions for Lithuanian citizens, and is instead directed at providing additional resources to bolster the resilience of Lithuanian state institutions. The declaration of a state of emergency follows a meeting of the State Defense Council (VGT) that was convened in response to the initiation of a Russian invasion of Ukraine during the early morning hours of 24 February.

President Maia Sandu submits request to parliament to invoke a state of emergency

President Maia Sandu of Moldova has submitted a request to the Parliament of Moldova to invoke a nationwide state of emergency following the initiation of a Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. Additional resources are likely to be deployed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs as Moldova experiences an increase in transit flow along the Ukraine-Moldova border.
