Magnitude 5.8 earthquake detected south of Hualien City

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has detected a magnitude 5.8 earthquake 60 kilometres south-southwest of Hualien City. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres at approximately 17:43 UTC. No information is currently available regarding the extent of any infrastructure damage in the area. This earthquake follows a magnitude 6.6 earthquake that struck off the coast of Taiwan shortly before.
