Protests held in Nyala, South Darfur

Local media reports that protests were held in Nyala against the withdrawal of the United Nations peacekeepers as part of the joint African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) which is due to be complete at the end of 2020. The peacekeeping mission began in 2007 with the aim of bringing stability to the war-torn region. Local residents reportedly gathered outside the headquarters of the UN mission in Nyala, with banners saying 'No the departure of UNAMID'.
