Update: Hurricane Iota strengthens to category 5

Hurricane Iota has strengthened in the Caribbean Sea and has become a category 5 storm, the strongest of the 2020 season so far. Iota is expected to make landfall in northeastern Nicaragua in the coming day and is expected to bring extremely high winds, heavy rain and a life-threatening storm surge with a potentially catastrophic impact.
