Partial evacuation order implemented in Vulcano following
increased volcanic activity
The Mayor of Lipari has authorised the implementation of a temporary
evacuation order for the island of Vulcano following an increase in volcanic
activity. The concentration of sulphurous gases has increased significantly
in recent days, increasing the risk of breathing difficulties. All tourism to
the island of Vulcano has been suspended indefinitely. Authorities in the
wider region of Sicily have declared a state of emergency on the island.
