MYANMAR (CSAR: High) - Armed Clashes Continue in
Kayah State
Clashes between militant groups and government forces are likely to continue in
Kayah State in the coming weeks. Violence between the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw)
and the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) in multiple areas, including
Demoso, Hpruso, and Loikaw townships. Heavy fighting occurred in those areas
Dec. 31-Jan. 1, during which at least 30 soldiers were reportedly killed. The
Tatmadaw has fired artillery at villages in Demoso and Loikaw townships.
Military personnel have also set fire to villages in areas where fighting has
broken out; attacks have previously resulted in civilian deaths. The fighting
has displaced thousands of people from the affected areas.
