OUR ACTIONS DURING THE CATASTROPHE IN PERUDATE:2010.02.04
Dear friends, Few days after the earthquake in Haiti, once again a new catastrophe put to the test our people. The mud and rock landslides that destroyed the railway to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu and that interrupted in many parts the millenarian Inca Trail, left over 2,000 tourist from all the world isolated for a week. Many of our customers were hurt, some others had health issues, others needed their medications or money to face the emergency, and all of them had problems rescheduling their flights. They all got the help they needed form our people of AC Peru, who worked untiringly not only to solve the problems of our customers but also to calm and tranquilize their relatives, providing them with reliable and first-hand information given by our service providers in Aguas Calientes. Regretfully one of our customers, an Argentinean young girl, passed away in a landslide at the Inca Trail. The call informing of her demise was received at AC Peru on Tuesday 26th morning. The Assistance Depts. of AC Peru and AC Argentina immediately contacted the Mayor of Aguas Calientes (where all the involved travelers were transferred), the Argentinean Consulate in Lima, the Argentinean Foreign Affairs Office and the corresponding funerary companies in Peru and Argentina. But they mainly worked to be permanently in contact with Lucia Ramallo’s family. They explained them each and every step needed and the time it would take to bring Lucia’s remains back home. These were very important things that needed to be made to somehow relieve the family. Difficulties were overcome one by one. The calls from both Alarm Centers researching, booking flights, speaking with the different government offices (in Peru and in Argentina) were effective and all these efforts made the repatriation a real success in every sense. A repatriation that was at the beginning programmed for Tuesday February 2nd and that could finally be performed in record time, since on Friday 30th at 6 a.m. the Aerolineas Argentinas aircraft arrived in Ezeiza Airport, where our assistances staff delivered the coffin to the family. The ACI Operations Team, and very especially the people of AC Peru showed, once again, not only their professionalism but also their huge commitment and their warmth. Congratulations!
