Two
dead as authorities confirm outbreak of Marburg virus disease
Ghana has announced the country's first outbreak of
Marburg virus disease after two patients died due to the disease. More than
90 contacts have been identified so far in the Ashanti Region. Containment
measures such as disease surveillance, testing, and tracing contacts is
underway in the region.
Marburg is transmitted to people from fruit bats and
spreads among humans through direct contact with the bodily fluids of
infected people, surfaces and materials. Illness begins abruptly, with high
